What is an Essential Oil?

Essential oils are the vital fluids circulating in plants that sustain life. They are volatile, aromatic oils that give plants their fragrances. To obtain these oils, various parts of plants, such as flowers, leaves, stems, bark, resins, roots or seeds are distilled at a low temperature and low pressure.

Essential oils are quite complex with hundreds of constituents. They can be stimulating and improve immune function or calming and relaxing, thus reducing stress. Many are antibacterial, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral and therefore beneficial to man. Since essential oils are molecularly small and compatible with blood, they can be applied to the feet and then absorbed throughout the body and delivered to the cellular level within twenty minutes. Essential oils are extremely concentrated, so only a few drops are needed.

There is an increasing demand in the world for essential oils for medicinal purposes as their benefits are being rediscovered.
